WOODIES DIY AAI JUVENILE TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS OF IRLEAND TULLAMORE 24 JULY 2010
On week 3 of the Woodies DIY AAI Juvenile Track and
Field Championships held in Tullamore, Barry Quigg earned his Silver medal with
a jump of 1.80m in the U18's Boy's High Jump. A very exciting competition were 3
of the athletes cleared 1.80m. Shane O Dwyer from Carrick-On-Suir A.C. took
first place on his final attempt at 1.83m. Dominic Gallagher ran in the U15's
Boy's 1500m and finished with a time of 5.13.30min. Athletic training will now
cease and resume in September when preparations will be made for the Cross
Country season. Congratulations to all of our dedicated athletes who trained,
entered in competition and won medals throughout the year. Thanks also to our
coaches, club committee, parents and all those who helped in the running of the
club for the past year.
MULLAGHMORE / NORTH WEST HOSPICE RACE / WALK SUNDAY AUGUST 8TH @ 5pm
Mullaghmore/North West Hospice Race/Walk on Sunday Aug. 8th at 5p.m. As usual,
the Race is 3 mls. exactly around Mullaghmore Head. Entry fee is 10 euro and

Three athletes travelled to Tullamore for Day 1 & 2 on Weekend 1 of the Woodies DIY AAI Juvenile Outdoor Championships in Tullamore. Barry Quigg represented his club on Day 1 in the U18's Boy's 110 m Hurdles (wind -2.5) with a time of 18.17 seconds. On Day 2,conditions were blustery. Patrick Mc Shane and Denis Byrne both competed in their first All Ireland Competition. Patrick Mc Shane competed in the U14 Boy's Javelin with a throw of 16.38. Denis Byrne competed in the U14's Shot Putt with a throw of 9.56m ( 2.72kg). Barry Quigg and Dominic Galllagher will now attend Weekend 2 of the competition in Tullamore on 24th & 25 July. Well done to all our athletes.

The Men’s Health Forum in Ireland (MHFI) would like
to give you advance notice of two competitive races (10k and 5k) and a 3k Fun
Run / Walk which will be taking place on Saturday 4th September
2010, in the spectacular grounds of Ardgillan Castle, near Skerries, Co.
Dublin.These events will begin at
1.30pm.
Males (and females who are prepared to dress as males) are invited to take
part in one of these runs being organised by the Forum.This event is an extension of MHFI’s
celebration of International Men’s
Health Week 2010 - which took place in mid-June 2010.During this week, men in Ireland were called
upon to “Get Up. Get Out. Get Going!” and to increase their level of physical
activity.
Both the 10k and 5k events
will be competitive races, and the first three finishers in each will receive a
laser engraved glass trophy.Registration
is required for these runs, and can be done online at www.runireland.comThe cost is €15 per person for the 10k run
and €10 per person for the 5k run when booked online (€20 for on-the-day
registration).Everyone - from seasoned
runners to absolute beginners - is very welcome.However, for the 10k run, all competitors must be aged 15 years
or over.
For the 3k event, there is no
pre-registration process - just turn up on the day and join in.It’s free!
All participants (in any of
the runs) will receive a Finishers’ Medal to prove to their family and friends
that they had the guts to meet this challenge!

NI & Ulster Track & Field Championships Antrim Forum 19 & 20th June 2010
Day 1
Seven of our athletes made the early journey to Antrim to compete in the NI & Ulster Championships in a hope that they would qualify for the All Ireland's held in Tullamore in July. Patrick Mc Shane and Denis Byrne both qualified with Patrick competing in Javelin with a throw of 23.15m and Denis in Shot Putt with a throw of 9.66m and a throw of 20.36 in Discus. Padraig Byrne took part in the 800m with a time of 2.30.17, Shannon Molloy competed in Long Jump (3.48m) and Shot Putt (6.60m). Also in long jump Kevin Mc Ginley (3.44m) and Triple Jump (8.20m). Peadar Conroy had a throw of 18.64m in the Javelin and 8m in the Shot Putt.
Day 2
Another early start for 3 more of our athletes on Sunday 20 June with Sarah Donovan qualifying in the Shot Putt with a throw of 9.77m. She also took part in the Discus (21.24) and Javelin (21.26). Nuala Byrne competed in the 80m hurdles with a time of 14.85 and then in the Long Jump with a jump of 3.97m. Pauric Ward also competed with a throw of 21.26 in Javelin.
Congratulations to all our athletes who qualified for the All Ireland's which will take place next month in Tullamore.
NI & Ulster Juvenile Track & Field Championships

Bus will leave Carrick at 6am on Saturday 19th June for athletes traveling to Antrim for the above championships for age groups Under 14 & Under 15. Congratulations to Barry Quigg who represented Carrick Vocational School in the All Ireland Schools Track & Field Championships on Saturday 12 June. Barry won a Bronze Medal with a height of 1.80m in the High Jump, a fantastic achievement in this prestigious competition in which many athletes throughout Ireland took part in. Triathlon Ireland are holding a talent identification day in Greystones, Co. Wicklow, on Saturday 15th May, 2010 from 11.30-6pm.
TI are looking for talented juniors and age-group athletes who reach the required standards in swim and run time trials. A number of spots in TI's Junior Development Program are on offer for talented young athletes.
If you know of an athlete interested in attending please read the attached letter for further details about the day and the required standards.The day will consist of a presentation on performance triathlon, a swim time trial and finish with the run time trial in the afternoon.
The swim will take place in the Shoreline Pool in Greystones, Co. Wicklow and the run at the Charlesland Running Track, Greystones, Co. Wicklow.
The TI Junior Development Programme is growing from strength to strength since its inception, and now has a number of talented athletes attending training camps abroad and racing for Ireland internationally. Athletes who attain the required standard will be invited to join a Regional Junior Squad - East, West or North and also potentially attain a place in the National Junior Squad.
The regional squads are capably led by TI's accredited Regional Coaches, under the guidance of TI's Assistant Coach Elena Maslova. The Junior Development Program has been developed by TI Performance Director Chris Jones, who still plays a very active role in its operation.
On Sunday 18th of April, the Donegal Teams which qualified for Birmingham made their way to the NEC Arena to battle it out against 11 other teams from the British Isles. The Under 13's boys were placed 7th with a total of 907 points. The girls Under 13's were also placed 7th with 1042 points. The Under 15 girl's team just missed out on a Bronze placing with a total of 1060 points with Cheshire just ahead with 1087 points.

Weekend 2
Nenagh was the setting for Day 3 of Woodies DIY Irish Juvenile Indoor Championships. After an early morning start, our club athletes provided us with great performances, some bringing home medals and others enjoying the experience of the competition. Darragh O Donnell had an excellent day returning to his club with a Gold Medal in the U 19 Boy's High Jump with a height of 1.85m. Barry Quigg also took a Bronze medal in the U18 Boy's High Jump with a height of 1.80m. Cian Gallagher came 4th in the U 17 Boy's Shot Putt with a throw of 10.21. Stephen Mc Intyre competed in the U19 Boy's 800m coming 5th with a time of 2.17.32. Our U17 Girl's 4x200m Relay Team, Nuala Byrne, Sheena Quigg, Sarah Donovan and Aisling Doherty came 5th in their heat.

Irish Juvenile Indoor Championships, Nenagh This weekend Barry Quigg, Stephen Mc Intyre and Sarah Donovan travelled to Nenagh to compete in the Irish Juvenile Indoor Championships. Sarah Donovan competed in the U 16's girls shot putt with a competitive throw of 10.01 m gaining her a Bronze Medal. Barry Quigg competed in the U 18's Boy's Triple Jump and was placed 5th with a distance jump of 12.15m. He also competed in the U 18's Boy's 60 m hurdles with a time of 9.72 seconds. Stephen Mc Intyre had an impressive run in the U 19's Boy's 1500m with a time of 4.44.47 placing himself 5th in his section. Jason Mc Gill also competed in the 60m hurdles with a time of 11.36 in his age group.

Club Competion for 6th Class and 1st Year Students
A Club Competition was held today March 25 in Carrick Vocational School for 6th Class and 1st Year Students. Events comprised of 4 la...p race, 2 lap race, chest throws, standing long jump and speed bounce. The overall winner was Padraig Byrne, second was Jason Mc Gill and third place went to Susan O Donoghue. Certificates were also handed out for Little Athletics by Coach Monica O Donnell with Daniel Lyons being the overall winner in this competition.

Yesterday 21st March athletes from the club attended a club competition hosted by Tir Chonaill A.C. in Donegal Town. Athletes competed and brought back some gold, silver and bronze medals to the club.

Today Thursday 11th March 2010, 7 of our club athletes, named below, will represent Donegal in the Indoor Athletic Competition in Magherafelt, Derry. Teams from Donegal, Fermanagh, Country Derry, Derry City, Antrim, Belfast, North Down, South Down and East Belfast will compete against each other to qualify for the U.K Championships to be held later in March at the Birmingham National Indoor Arena. Northern Ireland & Ulster Juvenile Championships, Magherafelt 27 Feb 2010
At the Northern Ireland & Ulster Juvenile Championships held in Magherafelt last Saturday, several Sliabh Liag Athletes booked their places for the All Ireland Juvenile Indoor Championships to be held in Nenagh on 27th & 28th March and 10th & ...11th April. First class performance from Barry Quigg who qualified in three events (Under 18) High Jump, 60m Hurdles and Triple Jump. Stephen Mc Intyre and Hannah Mc Nelis also qualified in the 800 metres in the Under 18/19 age group. Impressive performance also saw Darragh O Donnell qualify in the High Jump for his age group. Sarah Donovan also qualified in the Shot Put along with Ryan Byrne who also booked his place in the Under 18s Shot Putt. Our two relay 4x200m teams performed well with times of 2.07.92 for the Under 16 girl's relay team and 2.04.1 for the 93/94 girls relay team. Sheena Quigg, Megan Towell, Nuala Byrne and Aisling Doherty won their heat in the relay and also went onto qualify for Nenagh.
The Northern Ireland and Ulster Age Group Championships will take place in Magherafelt on Saturday 27th of February at 10 am. Timetable of events can be found at the following link

Seven of our athletes travelled on Day 2 to the Odyssey to compete in 60m,200m, 800m, Shot Put & Long Jump . An excellent day for two of our athletes winning Gold and Silver Medals. Sarah Donovan competed in the Shot Put and true to form won Gold with her throw of 10.43. Cian Gallagher also came home with Silver in the Shot Putt section throwing an impressive 11.22. Sheena Quigg had a time of 30.74 in Heat 1 of the 200m as well as a time of 9.11 in the 60m. Eoin O Leime competed in the 800m final with a time of 2.29.12 and a throw of 8.78 m in the Shot Put. Nuala Byrne had two good times of 9.16 in the 60m as well as 3m94 in the Long Jump. Pauric Ward also had a good throw of 8.84 m in the Shot Put section. Impressive performances by all our athletes.
It was an early start for some of our athletes heading to the Odyssey, Belfast for Day 1 of the Northern Ireland & Ulster Juvenille Championships. First time for many of our younger athletes to compete against other Ulster & Northern Ireland Clubs. Good Competition with athletes competing in 60m sprint, Long Jump, High... Jump, 60m Hurdles, Shot Putt and 800m. Good perfomances from many of the athletes, some achieving new PB's. Jason Mc Gill brought back a Bronze Medal in the 60m hurdles. Well done to all our athletes and good luck to the older athletes who travel to Belfast tomorrow for Day 2 of the competition.

BALLYLIFFIN COASTAL CHALLENGE
10 Mile Coastal Challenge
The inaugural Ballyliffin Coastal challenge was launched at a reception in the Ballyliffin Lodge Hotel on Friday 8th January 2010, attended by local business interests, Inishowen A C members, Carndonagh Hospice group the listed charity to benefit from this exciting event which will be run in the confines of the village, the Isle Of Doagh moving through the walkway at Pollan Bay and arriving back at the village.
Race date is April 3 (Easter Saturday) with a 2pm start distance 10 miles, entries can be taken online in the coming weeks via www.visitballyliffin.com and speakers on the evening underlined the nature of the challenge indeed invited walkers/runners/joggers to begin to prepare to take the challenge making it truly a family occassion. Speakers on the night included Michael Mc Laughlin Ballyliffin Dev. Patsy Mc Gonagle Irish olympic team manager and Niall Mc gee Inishowen a c. Its a case of all shoulders to the wheel in the months ahead as the organisers create awareness of what certainly will become an annual event.
Ballyliffin has become famous as a result of 2 world class golf courses its beautiful scenery in the shadow of Malin Head and this coastal challenge will open up those qualities to a larger percentage of the population not inly in the North West but further afield.

Walking groups particularly welcome to take the challenge so maybe thats the new years resolution that the public should consider when this snow disappears beginning to prepare for a healhier option in 2010.
Tir Chonail A.C.
Our neighbouring club Tír Chonail A.C. are to hold their second New Year's Day 8k run and Fit For Life walk on 1st Jauary in Bundoran, Co Donegal.
An added incentive this year will be an additional cash prize for the man and woman who breaks the existing course records of 26.18 for men and 29.27 for women.
Also this year the prize range will be increased to cover the first four in each category, with again cash prizes on offer.
The categories are:
Juniors (U-19) Male and Female – 1,2,3. Merchandise.
Open Male and Female – 1,2,3,4. Cash prizes.
Master Male and Female 35-39 – 1,2,3,4. Cash prizes.
Master Male and Female 40-49 – 1,2,3,4. Cash prizes.
Master Male and Female 50 plus – 1,2,3,4. Cash prizes.
Walkers – Spot prizes.
While the adults are enjoying the 8k run/walk, a series of kid’s races, ranging in distance from 200m to approx 1500m will take place along the finish area, with a start time of 12.05 pm. The age groups will be U-9/11/13 and 15. Each participating athlete will receive a medal as they cross the finish line. Entry fee for the kids is €3, payable at the finish area prior to the race start.
Changing and registration will take place in the Bundoran GAA grounds, where hot showers will be available afterwards. Registration fee for adults, walkers and runners is €10, juniors €5 and each entrant will receive a tee shirt and goody bag, while stocks last. The prize giving will take place afterwards in the Allingham Arms Hotel, where refreshments will be available free for competing athletes only, with a little charge for family and friends. Proceeds from the 8k run/walk to the local branch of St Vincent de Paul.
The walkers get under way at 11.30am and the runners at 12.00 noon, with the start close to the GAA grounds.
Recently local Sliabh Liag Athletes and transition year students from Carrick Vocational School organised and acted as officials for over 80 students from local primary schools who took part in a two hour athletics jamborree held in the Aislinn Centre, Kilcar. Events consisted of partner races, long jump, standing triple jump, standing long jump,seated ball throw, speed bounce, shot put and relays. The Blue team emerged as the overall winners by a narrow margin.
SPORTSHALL
Attached a photograph of Carrick Voc School 1st Yr Sportshall teams that competed on Wed last in Glenties. Five schools Scoil Colmcille, Ballyshannon, Killybegs Voc, Abbey Voc, Carrick Voc and Glenties Comp School competed with Carrick Boys and Abbey Girls coming away as overall team winners. Club Competition Nov 7th 2009
Sliabh Liag Athletic Club held it's first Club Competition Saturday 7th of November. Athletes, many of them new to the club, participated in the 60m sprint, High Jump, Shot Put and Standing Long Jump. For new athletes, the competition gave them an idea of what to expect at club level as well as introducing them to the rules of competition. An enjoyable day was had by all.
Ulster Uneven Ages Cross Country Nov 8th 2009
On Sunday 8th of November, the club sent 13 of their athletes to Killybegs to compete in the Ulster Uneven Age Group Cross Country. Four of our Under 13 girls Amy Carr, Caoimhe Byrne, Alex Krupa and Susan O Donoghue were placed 44th, 45th, 46th and 60th respectively. In the boys Under 14, Connor Docherty was placed 20th, Paul Doherty 47th, Daniel Lyons following in 72nd place and Patrick Carr 89th. The boys Under 15 followed with Eoin O Leime 25th, Andrew Mc Clean 45th, Dominic Gallagher 48th followed closely by Padraig Byrne 49th. Declan Garvey represented his club in the Under 17 group finishing in 39th place. Well done to all our athletes who took part in the competition.
