16 Athletes from the Sliabh Liag Athletic Club travelled to the Abbey Vocational School in Donegal Town on Sunday 23rd January to
join Tir Chonnail , Lifford, Killybegs, Letterkenny and the Rosses
athletic clubs for trials for selection to represent Ulster in the
forthcoming West Ulster Finals held in Eniskillen on 4 February. A win
for Ulster at these finals would see them progress to the Aviva Finals
held in Birmingham later this year. Events were for U13 & U15 boys
and girls. Events included speed bounce, vertical jump, shot putt,
triple jump, 4 lap and 2 lap and standing long jump. Our athletes
progressed very well in the competition , some winning their events and
others getting the feel of competition for the first time. The
competition was very well organised and the coaches gave athletes a few
healthy tips for improvement. Athletes will be informed of selection
next week.

SPORTSHALL
The west Ulster Sportshall finals are
scheduled for Thursday 3rd February in Enniskillen. Due to the cross
country season being extended into January, the county co-ordinator for
team selection is finding it difficult to arrange trials.
Mr Neil Cullen asks all clubs in
Donegal to prepare athletes (U13-U15 31st September 2010) at club level
in all Sportshall disciplines. “ it looks like one county trial in Abbey
Voc. School Donegal town on the weekend of the 22nd/23rd January
(Saturday or Sunday).this will be the only opportunity to provide
trials, teams must be selected on those dates. Hopefully we can provide
teams to qualify for the Aviva finals in Birmingham (April 2011)”.

Finn Valley ac last week launched their annual Stephens Day 5k
run/walk /jog the 40th annual organisation of an event that began all
those years ago with maybe a dozen hardy souls meeting in Drumboe Woods
to organise a run . Now it has become a popular community event reaching
out to all in the community a challenge that families and individuals
have undertaken in what is now an established must do during the
christmas period in East Donegal .
The largest turnout ever was in 2008 when close to 800 turned out
while even in atrocious weather that was the norm over the festive
period in 2009 ,430 participated

format with various charities on board on this occassion generating
their own funds towards their particular cause. The target is 1000 and
you are encouraged to indicate your participation for logistics purposes
by contacting rundonegal@gmail.com
