Tir Chonnail A.C Open Competition

On behalf of Tir Chonaill AC a sincere thank you to the 500 athletes who competed and served up some ouitstanding performances today, to the club representatives/supporters/coaches  from 15 different couinties that travelled in such large numbers; to the seventy officials from the Tir Chonaill club, and from across the country who ran the meeting so professionally and efficiently; and to numerous Tir Chonaill personel who worked unselfishly during the planning and implementation of this great athletics extravaganza -- and I suppose we should also mention the man above - some one must have put in a good word - the weather was glorious and at no stage from the early start - 9am - when we found RachaelAkers, Clare, throwing 52m in the Hammer and Ian Rodgers,Clonliffe Vaulting well over 4 metres to the final event ofthe day when Irish Youth Olympic panelist  Andrew Craemer from Annalee literally flew over the 110m hurdles in an excellenttime did we find one negative response from athlete/coach/supporter or official.
Thanks and well done everyone

ANYONE INTERESTED CONTACT THE CLUB

Triathlon Ireland has run a systematic Talent Identification Programme for several years now which more recently has been lead by Elena Maslova, Junior Programme Manager along with TI Talent Coaches under the guidance of Chris Jones, Performance Director of Triathlon Ireland.

Our next TID day is on Sunday, 10th April 2011.

Please see information letter attached and for all athletes who would like to attend please see our website http://www.triathlonireland.com/index.php?id=107&nid=209

All athletes interested must register on our survey with their times to be invited to participate on the day. Survey deadline is Monday 28th March 2011 at 5pm.

TALENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

After 2010 season, Triathlon Ireland entry levels had not been in line with European or World standards, therefore not allowing our young athletes to reach the required standard for international competition and gain experience as junior athletes outside a domestic competition calendar. TI Programme Director raised the bar using the points table below for qualification to the programme.

The aim of Triathlon Ireland over the next two years is to produce junior athletes that will compete successfully at both youth and junior championships while also focusing on their long term development.

Standard Points for Talent Identification Day (since 31/10/10)

Youth                           14-16 yrs         160 pts required at TID day

Junior                          16-19 yrs         155 pts required at TID day

Junior                          16-19 yrs         after 12 months on program 160    points required

Development               under 23’s       160pts

 Development               19 -23 yrs        160 pts

Please see attached for the High Performance Talent ID Points Table.

Please feel free to pass this information to any athletes or coaches who may know athletes who may be suitable and interested in the Talent Development Programme.

We look forward to developing champions!

23 January 2011

16 Athletes from the Sliabh Liag Athletic Club travelled to the Abbey Vocational School in Donegal Town on Sunday 23rd January to
join Tir Chonnail , Lifford, Killybegs, Letterkenny and the Rosses athletic clubs for trials for selection to represent Ulster in the forthcoming West Ulster Finals held in Eniskillen on 4 February.  A win for Ulster at these finals would see them progress to the Aviva Finals held in Birmingham later this year.  Events were for U13 & U15 boys and girls.  Events included speed bounce, vertical jump, shot putt, triple jump, 4 lap and 2 lap and standing long jump.  Our athletes progressed very well in the competition , some winning their events and others getting the feel of competition for the first time.  The competition was very well organised and the coaches gave athletes a few healthy tips for improvement. Athletes will be informed of selection next week.

SPORTSHALL

The west Ulster Sportshall finals are scheduled for Thursday 3rd February in Enniskillen. Due to the cross country season being extended into January, the county co-ordinator for team selection is finding it difficult to arrange trials.

Mr Neil Cullen asks all clubs in Donegal to prepare athletes (U13-U15 31st September 2010) at club level in all Sportshall disciplines. “ it looks like one county trial in Abbey Voc. School Donegal town on the weekend of the 22nd/23rd January (Saturday or Sunday).this will be the only opportunity to provide trials, teams must be selected on those dates. Hopefully we can provide teams to qualify for the Aviva finals in Birmingham (April 2011)”.
